KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - This weekend will bring major changes to the KCTV5 viewing area as rain, storms and severe weather potential are set to move in Saturday evening to Sunday morning with additional storm development on Sunday. Unfortunately, a drastic drop in temperatures is on the way too.
KCTV5 Weather ForecastThe weekend is here! Meteorologist Melissa Meeder breaks down the First Warns for the weekend and the threat for severe weather.

Saturday starts off quiet, warm and cloudy. Morning temperatures will only drop to the upper 50s. We will likely see some breaks in the clouds by the afternoon and evening which will help temperatures climb to the mid to upper 70s. It will be a breezy day with winds gusting to 30 mph in the afternoon to evening.
A First Warn is in place for Saturday evening into Sunday morning as rain and storms are likely with the potential for isolated to widely scattered severe storms. All modes of severe weather will be possible (large hail and damaging winds are the primary threats, but a few isolated tornadoes are possible). With that being said, please make sure you have several ways to receive weather watches and warnings, including the KCTV5 First Warn Weather app, as most of us will be sleeping when the potential for severe storms begins.
Almost the entire KCTV5 viewing area is under a level 2/5 risk for severe weather (including the metro), with a level 1/5 risk for our northern border counties.
Rain and storm activity will start to push in along a cold front starting Saturday evening around 6-8 p.m. Rain and storm activity will start to push into the metro by 10 to 11 p.m. and will continue into the early morning hours of Sunday before exiting out of the east by around 7 a.m. Sunday morning.
However, Sunday brings it’s own threat for strong to severe storms in the eastern half of our area. A level 2/5 risk for our southeastern areas and a level 1/5 risk for parts of the metro. Damaging winds and hail are the primary threats with any strong to severe storms that develop. We could see spotty to scattered rain and storms develop in the morning to the afternoon hours before drying out for the evening. Unfortunately, Sunday will be drastically cooler with high temperatures only reaching the low 50s with partly cloudy skies.
It is important to note that there will be ample dry time over the weekend - Saturday during the day and Sunday in the late afternoon to evening. So at least get out Saturday and enjoy the 70s!
Looking ahead, next week brings temperatures in the 50s and 60s with several small chances for rain and storms. Our next First Warn is Wednesday, with the potential for spotty rain and storm activity along with the potential for strong to severe storms.
